The Flexibility of the English Language

I love language... it's so fun to see how people adapt it :-)

My latest fave... "Dixie-Chicked"... As in comments about Chris Rock's upcoming film from a studio exec: "We are confident Chris knows this is not the appropriate time to make jokes about war and the president," said one top studio source. "We don't want to get Dixie-Chicked, or anything like that, out of the gate. We've invested tens of millions of dollars in the making of the movie and its marketing."

You know you've done something when other people turn you into a verb :-)

Training for the bad days

All this month, I keep flashing back to cheesy Olympics ads and interviews... One in particular keeps running through my head, although I can't figure out who said it or in what context. It went something like this:

"In training for the Olypics, you don't train for the good days. Anyone can win the Olympics on a good day. You train for the bad days... when you're sick and tired and you don't feel up for a race. But, you have to race anyways, because this has been the focus of your life for so long."

Charlie's Angels

Ok - totally random superfluous fun. I could just leave this on continuous loop all day.

Digging out

How exactly does life get to the point where I'm ready to celebrate the fact that I'm ONLY about 5 weeks behind where I'd hoped to be at with projects right now?

Except for that one that I'm about 1.5 years behind on with a hard deadline 2.5 weeks from now.....

It makes it so hard for me to give my students marks off for handing in their book reviews 3 weeks late. I can't figure out which is worse, feeling hypocritical or enabling others to feel like deadlines aren't important. Blahhh...

Where has the last year gone??? Really... the last thing I remember clearly was saying in January 2002, "Sure, Nick.. let's work on the GKP Youth Strategy together." Then I blinked and it was 2003.

Does that happen to everyone who starts working with TIG??? The whirlwind? The loss of large chunks of time and memory? Must be that hypno-Flash intro... only explanation I can think of ;-)
